Sagnier as Candida Höfer

Antonio Sagnier, grandson of the architect Enric Sagnier, presented yesterday at the Francisco Godia, building by architect, the book “Sagnier Architect by Candida Höfer”, a publication created to pay homage and the trilogy dedicated to one of the most important architects of Barcelona in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
This book shows the audience in a visual way the interiors of a selection of the most important buildings in Barcelona, ​​among more than 400 that projected throughout his career, with the help of the renowned German photographer Candida Höfer.

“Architect by Candida Höfer Sagnier” is the third and final publication of the complete works of Enric Sagnier (Barcelona, ​​1858-1931) which consists of two books: “Sagnier Architect (Barcelona 1858-1931)” (2007) and “Route Sagnier. Architect (Barcelona 1858-1931) “(2009). While the first book was intended to rescue the history of architecture Sagnier figure and the second guide format has helped to disseminate his work, the latter intended to be a work for enjoyment through artistic look Exquisite and Candida Höfer.

Candida Höfer (Cologne, 1944) is a German photographer and artist long distinguished history and one of the main representatives of the so-called Düsseldorf School. The guide book offers a tour through the Barcelona of Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia, one of the most important architects in 19th and 20th-century Barcelona and who enjoys the distinction of having the most works listed in the Barcelona Heritage Catalogue. Gardens in Sant Gervasi will be named after Enric Sagnier and Winston Churchill

The versatile Catalan architect Enric Sagnier i Winston Churchill, the only Prime Minister awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, will appoint two district landscaped spaces.

The gardens are Enric Sagnier in Brusi Street, 51-61, surrounding the civic center Sagnier House, former summer house of the family of the architect. Wiston Churchill Gardens are located at the junction of the Via Augusta with Ronda General Mitre. These new names of two garden areas of the district, were approved unanimously at the last Plenary Council March 8, a proposal from the Lecture Hall Gazetteer of Barcelona.

Enric Sagnier (Barcelona, 1858-1931). It was one of the most prolific architects of Catalan Modernism, with about four hundred fifty buildings constructed between 1881 and 1938, despite not being one of the best-known architects of his generation. Its buildings are unique and diverse, including find homes, schools, churches, hotels and offices. His work is next to modernism but with a certain classicism. He was one of the architects of the Barcelona bourgeoisie favorite of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In Barcelona we find documented more than 300 buildings, some of which are of significant architectural value. Among his works are emblematic atoning Tibidabo Temple and Palace of Justice.

Winston Churchill (Woodstock, 1874 – London, 1965). It was a British politician known for his leadership of the United Kingdom during the Second World War. He was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1945, 1940 and later between 1951 and 1955. Churchill, a prominent statesman and with remarkable oratory, was also British Army officer, historian, artist, and writer, in fact it is the only Prime Minister awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953.
